Date of Walk: 04/04/10
Walk organized by: Self
Start time: 13:00
Start location: Ashton Road, Oldham
Walk length: 5.37 miles
Weather conditions: Dry, sunny spells
Details:
Sorry, no pictures for today, I only took a couple and they didn't turn out very well.
I started on Ashton Road, turning down Coal Pit Lane and continuing towards Daisy Nook. It wasn't the quietest day to do so, since the fair had started the previous day, but public transport options are slightly thinner on the ground during holidays. I walked up through the fair to the visitor centre, then along through Dark Tunnel and into Boodle Wood. I headed along the main path through the wood towards Oldham Road, taking a bit of a detour to the river bank and back through the arboretum. I then headed back parallel to the main path through the trees towards Dark Tunnel, continuing across and down the steps to the river at the other side of the aqueduct. I continued through the trees and up the hill to reach Sammy's Basin, then went along the canal path back to Oldham Road.
It was a nice walk apart from the constant noise from the fair (which you could hear as far away as Oldham Road) and people who can't and won't keep control of their dogs. Honestly, if your dog has, however uncharacteristically, been extremely threatening to someone to the point where you've had to drag it away from that person to stop it attacking them, should they inadvertently cross your path again it's not the best idea to let your dog off its lead again right next to them. That and all the idiots who let their dogs run around on the bridlepaths. Stupid irresponsible dog owners. So yeah, that was a relaxing walk then.
