On the way back down the hill towards Crawshawbooth

Details:
Crawshawbooth is a small village in Rossendale just north of Rawtenstall. It's a popular place with walkers due to lots of surrounding moorland. Crawshaw Hall, now a medical centre and nursing home, was built there in 1830 and was the home of a local quarry owner. Goodshaw Baptist Chapel is the only nonconformist place of worship that English Heritage own, and dates from the mid eighteenth century. Crawshawbooth is also the location of one of the oldest Quaker meeting houses in the world.

Starting from Goodshaw Lane we went up the lane past the chapel and joined a footpath that took us across Swinshaw Moor. We stopped at a monument, a stepped stone circular platform large enough to sit on with a cross on top, and people got out sandwiches so I assumed it was lunch. We moved off quite quickly, and I remember thinking that lunches must be quick with this group. Then we headed into Lumb and stopped there for actual lunch. Still, other people had had sandwiches earlier so I wasn't the only one confused. Or they were hungry and had two lots of sandwiches. More lunch would have been great, but sadly I'd eaten all mine already. It was a nice stop though, apart from lots of shouty children running around. We then went back across the moor, stopping briefly again before making the descent back into Crawshawbooth.

Twas an adventure. New walking group (new to me anyway). I've been on their mailing list for ages but not managed to get to a walk of theirs until this one. I made the journey up on the very lovely Witch Way bus, which I had never been on before and which was almost empty and had very comfy seats. Had a bit of a fret about finding the bus stop in Manchester (and the one next to it not being in operation because of a road closure) and managing to get off at the right stop. I'd never been to Crawshawbooth before. It was quite lovely really. Everyone on the walk introduced themselves at the start and I promptly forgot all their names apart from the walk organizer, whose name I had written down. I got talking to a couple of very nice people, including one who very kindly gave me a lift to somewhere near home. I kept up reasonably well, which made me happy. Also, there were frogs. On the way back across the moor I heard grasshopper type noises and I looked around in the grass (I don't know why I do this because I never see them) and saw a very small frog just in front of me, staying quite still. Shortly after I saw another one. Maybe this is the time of year that tadpoles grow up. Makes a change from sheep, anyway.

Worst wildlife photograph of the year. I swear there is a small frog near the bottom of this picture, just left of centre. It looks quite fuzzy. The actual frog wasn't fuzzy, it really is a bad picture. But there is still a frog in it.

More bad animal photography. The second sheep turned round at just the wrong moment.
