Date of Walk: 10/10/10
Walk organized by: Million Women Rise Manchester
Start time: 14:00
Start location: Castlefield Outdoor Arena, Manchester
Walk length: 4.37 miles including getting to and from march
Weather conditions: Sunny, warm

Taking over Piccadilly Gardens
Details:
One lovely, sunny day in Manchester and a few hundred people making a lot of noise. Starting from Castlefield Arena, after an awful lot of standing around, we headed up past MOSI and through some back streets which were new to me but seemed a very odd place for a march. We eventually reached the more populated environs of John Rylands Library, Deansgate, St Anne's Square, Princess Street and finally Piccadilly Gardens. It's much more of a trek to London, so it would be nice if this caught on here in a bigger way, but I can understand wanting to start small. I took along a very loud whistle and a small giraffe. Nobody asked me what the giraffe was all about. I had a short speech ready and never got to use it. Still, there are many worse ways to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Milling around in Castlefield Arena.

Passing Manchester Town Hall
Evil Giraffe
