Date of Walk: 24/10/10
Walk organized by: Saddleworth Pedestrians
Start time: 10:30
Start location: Hey Green, Marsden
Walk length: 5.49 miles
Weather conditions: Cold, sunny

Details:
It was one of those beautiful sunny days you get when the weather has turned cold, and the light and colours seem so vivid, like everything is fighting the oncoming death of winter by looking more alive than ever before.
Starting from outside the Hey Green Hotel, 24 of us walked down the road and alongside a river, before heading uphill along a lane and enjoying the ever-increasing views of the surrounding area. We headed across the hill until we reached a wooded area, where we stopped for lunch. We then turned down the hill, crossed under the railway and joined the canal towpath. We walked back along this as far as the visitor centre, then rejoined the path we'd taken out from Hey Green back alongside the river to the start.
It was a lovely walk, not too taxing but with a bit of a hill near the start to get us all warm. The area is beautiful, and the views were fantastic. I felt ok for most of it, but at the moment I'm still unsure whether whatever was making me ill is still hanging on and I ought to take it easy for a bit longer, or it's gone and I only feel tired because it's left me really unfit again. Either way, I think I need to try and do a bit more.

Setting off alongside the river

Going up onto the hillside

Views from the coffee stop

Going back down the hill towards Slaithwaite

Lovely, twisty tree spotted at lunch stop

Approaching the Rochdale Canal

Views from along the canal

Little black cat

Interesting gate close to the start point
Evil Giraffe
